Plan #1 is a typical two-story home with one central furnace with attached cooling equipment. Ordinarily, one thermostat would control both floors allowing uneven temperature balance between floors and wasted heat supplying the second floor during daytime non-occupied periods. Two control thermostats are installed with zoning allowing control of temperature balance and the option of leaving the second floor shut off for several hours per day, best accomplished with programmable thermostats in each zone.
